The service will be made available to Virgin Radio listeners on an O2 network using a Nokia phone pre-loaded with the Visual Radio application. Visual Radio is expected to be rolled out to other radio stations in the near future.

Visual Radio will allow listeners to tune in to local FM radio through their mobile handsets while simultaneously receiving interactive information and graphics that are synchronized with the broadcast. Initially listeners will see ‘now playing’ information, artist pictures and DJ information. They will also be able to participate in quizzes and enter competitions.

James Cridland, director at Virgin Radio, said, Visual Radio enhances the listening experience and interaction with the station for every listener. It can also give advertisers a more dynamic platform to communicate their messages. Virgin Radio is yet again driving the technological development of the radio medium.
