HP to acquire MacDermid ColorSpan

Hewlett-Packard has signed a deal to buy MacDermid ColorSpan, which develops wide-formal digital inkjet printers, for an undisclosed amount.

ColorSpan, a subsidiary of privately held MacDermid, sells UV-curable inkjet printers for display graphics to sign shop franchises, quick printers and other small to midsize sign-making and screen-printing businesses.

HP said that by buying Minnetonka, Minnesota-based ColorSpan it would extend its footprint in the sign shop and quick-printing market.

HP plans to integrate ColorSpan into its Graphic Arts unit within the Imaging and Printing Group of HP.
