The three companies would jointly develop and sell RFID platforms and supply chain management services that use RFID.
HP Japan, which is owned by Hewlett-Packard Co, Internet Initiative Japan Inc and IIJ Technology Inc, said it also would conduct joint research on EPCglobal-compliant RFID platforms and infrastructure technologies to enable inter-company and international logistics.
Additionally, the companies plan to establish a facility at HP’s RFID Noisy Lab Japan to evaluate and verify these platforms and troubleshoot problems.
The three-company alliance said it expects to be among the first to commercialize corporate information systems that can instantaneously respond to changes in information in real time by connecting the RFID platform based on international standards with other effective IT services, in a statement.
In Japan, the use of the ultra-high frequency band for RFID was granted in April and is expected to accelerate RFID usage in the country, which currently lags that of the US.
