HP SOFTWARE SERVES UP THE PAPER TO YOUR PRINTER

By CBR Staff Writer

Hewlett-Packard Co has brought out client software to enable the automatic retrieval and printing of newspapers over the internet. Once users have programmed the browser software, it will go out every morning and bring back newspapers from the appropriate server, and send them off for printing. The one slight problem is that both the PC and the printer will need to be on at the time the newspapers are due to arrive, something that HP says is largely a hardware issue. As for the obvious development from all of this, cutting out the PC and sending the newspaper directly to the printer, HP is working on the issue, but for the moment wishes to keep the technology low-cost and simple, a company spokesperson said. Currently in beta testing, the software will be available for free from mid November.
