Hewlett-Packard Co’s Colorado Memory Systems division has launched a tape back-up software program for OS/2. The Loveland, Colorado company says the program is compatible with its Jumbo and Trakker 120, 250 and 350 tape drives via Hewlett-Packard’s internal and external parallel port drives to an IBM Corp personal computer. The 32-bit software has an OS/2 interface and supports data exchange between MS-DOS, Windows and OS/2 so users can transfer MS-DOS and Windows files to and from OS/2 systems. The program handles initialisation files that configure the information needed to run a Windows program, and File Allocation Tables, which index where files are stored on a hard disk. It will also back up HPFS, High Performance File Systems – the file system unique to OS/2. It has a two-disk recovery system that gives users quick recovery from a system crash without the need to re-install OS/2, the company asserts. The software also has a file-set recording capability for automated, unattended back-up. The program provides individual workstation back-up as well as back-up for OS/2 servers and OS/2 networks such as Microsoft Corp’s LAN Manager and IBM Corp’s LAN Server. Colorado Backup is shipping now for $70. Users with previous versions of back-up software for Jumbo Systems can upgrade to Colorado for $30, the company said.
