Hewlett-Packard Co has revealed more details about its plans to move into storage management, centering around the management of the emerging storage area networking market (CI No 3,522). HP plans to use its existing OpenView Network Node Manager technology for the task, and is promising the first of a range of new and enhanced storage products for SAN management next Spring. The products will provide for the automatic discovery of devices connected to a SAN, support multidimensional graphics for representing the network, manage arbitrated loop configurations as well as fabrics, and manage new generation fiber channel storage systems as well as existing HP storage products. HP says it will work with partners on the effort. SAN management products will work with HP’s storage management tools, such as the recently introduced HP OpenView OmniBack II, release 3.0, now shipping. The backup and restore package is said to be the first to market that supports Microsoft Cluster Server (Wolfpack) setups.
