Hewlett-Packard Co has reprieved its workstation manufacturing plant in Exeter, New Hampshire, which was to have been phased out over 18 months from last October, with much of the work to have ended up being subcontracted. The continuing strong demand for our products has convinced us that it would not be wise to begin the transition to a third party, it said. The 400 employees were to have been offered positions at other Hewlett facilities or at a subcontractor, but will now remain at the plant.Hewlett picked up the Exeter facility with Apollo Computer in 1989. It does workstation final assembly, test and distribution.
