Hewlett-Packard Co has introduced the Telepace, a scalable telecommunications system based on its HP 9000 servers and workstations. The company claims it is the first off-the-shelf system to combine high-performance computing with EISA and Versa Module Eur ocard VME interfaces. Telepace features compatibility with Ethernet 802.3, ThinLAN, or Ethertwist at 10Mbps, and eight EISA and two VME slots. It also features SCSI-2, serial RS232, V.24/V.28, parallel, audio and video interfaces, the company says. It uses a 100MHz PA-7100LC RISC, and on the storage front it offers up to 256Mb of main memory, fixed media storage accommodating up to 8Gb capacity, and removable media mass storage for Digital Audio Tape, CD-ROM, or 3.5 floppy disk drive, says Hewlett-Packard. In terms of scalability, Telepace has eight EISA expansion slots, four VME bus expansion slots, and an optional miniDIN interface for users that want a keyboard and mouse. The Telepace is shipping now for ú270,000.
