The new switch is part of the Palo Alto, California-based company’s 2600 range, which already had four members: the 2626 and 2650, with 26 and 50 10/100 ports respectively plus two dual-personality GbE uplink ports (1000T for copper or mini-GBIC for fiber) and the 2626-PWR and 2650-PWR, offering then same configurations but with PoE.
The new member is the 2600-8-PWR and has a list price of 649 euros. In addition to its eight 10/100 ports, it has a single dual-personality GbE uplink.
Jon Weatherall, country manager of HP ProCurve for the UK and Ireland, said the device will compete with switches from the likes of D-Link and Netgear rather than Cisco, which has no comparable offering in the eight-port area.
