Working with the WasteAware Partnership and Maxitech.biz, HP has set up IT drop-off stations at locations across the UK district and is calling for households to donate their old printers, monitors, digital cameras, mobile phones and scanners.
These IT cast-offs will be professionally refurbished and passed on to children’s charity NCH or resold to UK companies unable to afford new equipment. Any money raised will fund a Maxitech.biz training program designed to help disadvantaged people gain recognized qualifications.
Equipment unsuitable for refurbishment will be recycled at a specialized plant instead of simply going to a landfill site.
Refurbishing computer equipment and making IT accessible to the wider community is one of the most effective ways of reducing the impact of IT waste on the environment. It’s something HP has been doing for many years, so we’re really proud to be supporting Hertfordshire in this initiative, said Dr Kirstie McIntyre, who heads up IT recycling and reuse programs at HP in the UK and Ireland.
