Hewlett-Packard Co has a new 622Mbps Multi Mode Fiber ATM adapter card for its HP 9000 servers. It has also enhanced the existing 155Mbps ATM card, which uses Single or Dual mode fibre, suitable for T600 servers and B, C, and J class workstations. According to HP, both cards have a proprietary ATM chip that reduces load on the CPU, and equips the network with Available Bit Rate functionality which allows the reservation of dedicated bandwidth. The cards are priced as $1900 for the 155 MMF, $2,500 for the 155 SMF, and $5,500 for the 622 MMF. Software for the cards ranges from $250 to $1500. The cards will be shipping from June.
