Hewlett-Packard Co has never wanted to do everything itself, and while it has quite a panoply of networking equipment products, there are plenty of gaps, so yesterday it announced an alliance with market leader and long-time partner Cisco Systems Inc under which the two will jointly develop Internet-ready products to maximize the benefits of combining networking and computing. The pair will expand or begin collaboration in four areas: technology development, product integration, professional services and customer service and support. The pair plans to offer end-to-end implementations for Windows NT and Unix environments, with an emphasis on one-stop service and support. The plan to focus on critical business applications such as intranets, electronic commerce, databases and messaging.
