HP and Compaq are expected to shortly inform staff of how the merger will affect the internal structure of the company. Last year H-P claimed the merger would lead to the loss of 15,000 jobs but declined to comment on where the losses would come from.
Meanwhile Walter Hewlett, the figurehead of the opposition to the merger, has begun legal action to abandon the shareholder vote, claiming HP improperly influenced Deutsche Asset Management to vote in favour of the deal.
