Hewlett-Packard Co, pleased with the improved performance from using solid state storage vendor Database Excelleration Systems Inc’s Dynamic RAM-based storage devices with its PA RISC-based machines, has agreed to resell the Santa Clara, California-based company’s wares with its own PA 8000 and 9000 servers. Hewlett- Packard says DES’s Excellerator devices improve the performance of its servers across all applications and databases, increasing the throughput and lowering transaction costs by up to 40%. According to privately-held DES, Excellerator works best with large databases – from any vendor – affording access times faster than RAID systems. In an exclusive deal with DES, HP will be marketing and selling the HP 9000 and Excellerator package to the telecommunications and financial industries, and has already sold a system to France Telecom SA. No details of the agreement were disclosed.
