HP has signed an MOU with the Puerto Rican government to explore the possibility of setting up a branch of its HP Labs R&D organization on the Island. Puerto Rico’s government is working to transform the island into a knowledge-based economy.

HP already employs 2,000 people in Puerto Rico, at a manufacturing site and a sales and service facility. The proposed R&D center would initially be sited at the firm’s existing manufacturing facility, but may ultimately be moved to a planned technology park.
