Hewlett Packard Co and Swatch Group AG may unveil details about a jointly-developed ‘internet watch’ in January, the Swiss watchmaker said yesterday. The negations are still going on but we hope to be able to make an announcement at a news conference in January, Swatch spokesperson Carmen Daetwyler told Reuters.

Swatch has been working on developing an internet watch for some time. The watch would link wirelessly to the internet and have email and electronic payment functions. Swatch was previously said to be working with Apple Computer Corp on an internet watch that embodied some of iMac’s design concepts (CI No 3,702). However, HP’s CEO Carly Fiorina announced talks with the watchmaker were underway in this November at the Comdex trade show.
