With the expansion of businesses and more rigorous legal and regulatory requirements for handling electronic documents, the need for more storage capacity is increasing. Additional storage also increases energy consumption to run and cool more powerful servers. Through this acquisition HP gets access to EYP’s software-based process to assess and benchmark energy efficiency, cooling design concept, and a direct current powered facility design.

This acquisition follows the $1.6 billion buy-out of Opsware in July 2007 by HP. Opsware creates software for automating data-center tasks such as establising servers and networks. HP also recently acquired Atos Origin Middle East Group to bolster its consulting and integration capabilities.

EYP Mission Critical Facilities is a 350-person firm with 13 offices located in the US and the UK. Its customers include enterprises in the financial services, telecommunications and broadcasting, manufacturing, and healthcare sectors.
