HP will open a new research facility in Colorado, US, in which the company will advance sustainable data centre technologies.
The new 50,000 sq.ft. facility will expand on the company’s Converged Infrastructure architecture by developing technologies to eliminate IT sprawl, increase energy efficiency and reduce power consumption to help clients minimise their carbon footprint and re-invest cost savings into business innovation.
The new facility is built in collaboration with HP Labs, the company’s central research facility, will enable HP to explore new strategies for reducing the environmental impact of next-gen data centres.
In addition, the facility will focus on innovations including advanced data analytics enabled through integrated sensor technology to support the company’s Data Centre Smart Grid initiative.
HP said that it will also study sophisticated resource management through the use of power and cooling microgrids.
HP sustainable ecosystems research lab principal research scientist Tom Christian said their clients are seeking sustainable, affordable data centre technologies that will effectively change the energy equation.
"The new Fort Collins research facility advances the development of offerings that address CIOs’ most pressing needs, including lowered energy consumption and reduced costs," Christian said.
