HP has collaborated with the motion-control software and hardware firm, Leap Motion, to incorporate its 3-D motion control feature in some of its devices.

The controller will be plugged into a PC and will start tracking users’ fingers and hand movements as they gesture, swipe and point at their computer screens.

HP Consumer PCs senior vice president and general manager Ron Coughlin said Leap Motion’s 3-D motion control blended with HP technology and developer apps will offer improved user experiences.

"Customers want to go to the next level when creating and interacting with digital content," Coughlin said.

Leap Motion claims, the controller is able to capture the movement of 10 fingers instantly, allowing for complicated gesture-based controls.

Initially, the controller will be aimed at users as a gaming and entertainment device, while its future applications will include assisting users in working on office tasks, paint pictures or design 3-D objects.

The functionality of the device resembles Microsoft Kinect gaming peripheral, while it is developed to be used at a very closer range to detect more intricate movements.

HP is planning to launch its PCs with built-in hardware, including Airspace application store, by summer 2013.
