HP introduces application for easy mobility of virtual machines

The applications will simplify, automate and secure the movement of virtual machines and data in cloud environments

By CBR Staff Writer

HP has introduced a new virtualisation software application, HP Converged Infrastructure, which will simplify, automate and secure the movement of virtual machines and data in cloud environments.

The applications include HP Ethernet Virtual Interconnect (EVI), HP Multitenant Device Context (MDC), and HP StoreVirtual virtual storage appliance (VSA).

EVI is an overlay technology that enables IT administrators to connect up to eight data centres located around the world from one location in minutes, without requiring manual configuration, HP said.

MDC software will offer greater security for multi-tenant cloud applications particularly aimed at enterprises that are looking to house data from different departments.

HP added that VSA will allow businesses to create pools of storage on x86 servers running Microsoft’s Hyper-V or VMware hypervisors. It will allow clients to move data across heterogeneous servers, hypervisors and data centrs in dispersed locations while reducing overall cost and complexity.

HP senior vice president and general manager of networking Bethany Mayer said that clients are seeking a more flexible virtualised environment that enables mobility of virtual machines and data services across the enterprise.

"HP’s unique virtualisation technologies meet that need, helping clients to significantly increase their agility and innovate at a pace their organisations demand," Mayer said.
