Deep Blue, or rather Junior Blue, a version of the IBM Corp chess technology running on an RS/6000 server rather than an SP2 parallel processing monster will play Howard Stern during PC Expo in New York between June 17 and 19. Junior Blue’s never lost against a Grand Master, we’re told, let alone a publicity master like Stern. IBM would like to have Junior play a bunch of other big celebs, such as David Letterman. It’s had countless offers to play from other Grand Masters after Deep Blue defeated world champion Garry Kasparov a few weeks ago. It’s still wondering to take up the bad loser ‘best of three’ demand. IBM’s also wondering whether it can get Deep Blue playing a team of grandmasters simultaneously. It’s still working on a commercial version of its chess technology too. So can we expect a Kasparov v Stern showdown if Junior loses?
