GPS navigation and wireless device maker Garmin International has unveiled its first portable navigation device (PND), nüviCam, to make driving easier through advanced alert systems.
The nüviCam features a 6-inch pinch-to-zoom glass display with an HD dash cam built into the back of the camera.
The camera continuously records and automatically saves files on impact through the device’s Incident Detection feature. This offers an eyewitness to the events occurred.
GPS on the device records exactly where and when events occur on the road and allows drivers to play back the video on the device or from a computer using dashcamplayer.
Garmin vice-president Dan Bartel said: "The nüviCam goes beyond helping drivers get from Point A to Point B.
"The intuitive driver-assist features not only lessen the stress of getting you to your destination, but the nüviCam also provides peace of mind in knowing that your commute is being recorded and can be referenced should you need it."
NüviCam also has a Snapshot feature that allows drivers to take still images outside of the vehicles.
Garmin International said that the driver-assist systems featured in nüviCam like Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and Garmin Real Vision, Active Lane Guidance are similar to those offered in luxury vehicles.
The voice-based navigation feature gives freedom to the drivers to speak command to the device without losing focus of the road. It includes a Bluetooth wireless technology for hands-free calling.
The company is offering a free smartphone link that will allow users to get additional info like real-time data services, along with weather or safety information using iOS or Android based devices.
NüviCam is preloaded with detailed maps of Europe and it will receive free lifetime map updates.
The product is available in May 2015 with a suggested retail price of £299.99.
