The Basic Science and Research sub-committee of the US House of Representatives’ Science Committee is readying a hearing on September 22 to get itself up to date on the current status of the battle over the administration of the domain name system. The sub-committee oversees the National Science Foundation (NSF), which awarded the contract to administer the InterNic registry to Network Solutions Inc more than five years ago, which expires at the end of this month. So far the only speaker asked to testify that we know about is Tamar Frankel, the Boston University professor who chaired the International Forum on the White Paper (IFWP) meetings. With Congress due to adjourn in six weeks, details are hastily being arranged and are yet to be finalized. The sub-committee is chaired by Representative Chip Pickering.
