Hoskyns Group Plc’s IBM division, Hoskyns Insight, has released a new version of the mrc-Productivity Series applications development tool, which runs on the AS/400. The company has incorporated a new technique called Template Programming Language which it describes as a high level language that enables programmers to guide the efforts of end-users in developing applications. The core of TPL is a library of standard program types or templates that provide a back-bone of user-generated applications. Programmers can modify the templates provided with mrc-Productivity Release 3 or they can build their own. Hoskyns claims that TPL enables the creation of a secure application framework that has the programmer-defined coding and user-defined specialist applications. The entry-level price of mrc-Productivity Release 3.0 is UKP4,000.
