HORRIBLE 1986 FIGURES FROM IBM DEUTSCHLAND HIGHLIGHT EUROPEAN PROBLEMS

By CBR Staff Writer

IBM Deutschland GmbH has belatedly released turnover but not profit figures for 1986, and dismal reading they make. In local currency figures, turnover was down 9% at DM12,020m, made up of business within West Germany down 12.7% at DM7,200m and exports down 3.2% at DM4,800m. The company also says that prices for large mainframes were reduced by 23%, and blames the rise in the value of the Deutschmark and lower than expected demand in the second half of the year for its rotten performance.
