The HOPSports training system is a multi-media, technology driven, physical education program to entertain and engage both teachers and students. Multi-screen, music-based presentations are delivered through a projection system onto an available wall. Participants then have the chance to stand up and exercise along with the presentations, participating in sports-specific activities such as baseball, tennis, swimming and soccer.
By including a HeartStart defibrillator in each of the HOPSports training systems and providing additional educational content, young adults will now have the opportunity to learn about the prevalence of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) and will also be trained in CPR and defibrillator use, further encouraging children to become actively involved in all aspects of health and fitness. SCA can happen to anyone at any time, and school-aged children are not immune. In the US, an estimated 5,000-7,000 children die from SCA each year.
Cindy Sisson Hensley, CMO of HOPSports, said: Philips shares our core educational values, which is one of the reasons why we chose to include HeartStart defibrillators in our training package. Including these defibrillators in our training system will help prepare students from across the country to respond to a sudden cardiac arrest emergency.
