HOPE THAT OFFICE OF TELECOMMUNICATIONS WILL GRANT LICENCE TO INTERNATIONAL PAYPHONES

By CBR Staff Writer

The UK is chronically under-populated with public telephone boxes by comparison with the US, so it is hopeful news that a new company, International Payphones Ltd has been formed in the hope that it will be permitted to go into competition with British Telecom on installing and operating public phone boxes and booths: Integrated Information Technology Ltd of St Ives, Cambridgeshire is the UK partner in the new company, and will manufacture the telephones if the Office of Telecommunications grants a licence for the venture, which wants to invest UKP10m putting in 30,000 public pay telephones.
