In a move that threatens to kill the viability of all the players in the market, even in mobile phone-mad Hong Kong, the administration in the Crown Colony plans to grant as many as 10 mobile licences next year – up to six Personal Communications Services and up to four for Cordless Access Services, the Japanese Personal Handy Phone variant on the UK Telepoint system, which does enable calls to be received as well as made; Japanese trading house Tomen Corp and phone company DDI Corp say they are considering bidding for one of the latter licences, in partnership with Hong Kong company Wharf (Holdings) Ltd.
