Ever looking to expand its high-speed internet service into new markets, @Home Network Inc has hooked up with Cablevision Systems Corp to secure Cablevision’s important New York, Boston and Cleveland systems. Upon completion of the acquisition of New York-area systems from Tele-Communications Inc (CI No 3,178), Cablevision will serve roughly 5.5 million homes. Similar to @Home’s contracts with other cable providers, the deal will make Cablevision’s systems available exclusively to it. In exchange for that privilege, Cablevision will receive a warrant to purchase 11 million shares of @Home’s series A common stock at $0.50 per share. The agreement, which is subject to board and shareholder approval, will give @Home access to more than 50 million homes in North America.
