HKEx upgrades trading hall network

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing has upgraded its trading hall network infrastructure with an 'Ethernet' switching system from Nortel. The upgraded network is designed to deliver reliable terabit performance to traders, and to securely handle the end-to-end transport of all types of application data.

The Nortel system provides the HKEx trading hall with a new 10/100 Mbps Layer 2 Ethernet LAN infrastructure based on the Nortel Ethernet Switch 470, working in combination with an existing Nortel Ethernet Routing Switch 8600 backbone. It features Nortel ‘Split Multi-Link Trunking’ (SMLT) technology designed to ensure high service availability by eliminating any single point of failure in the network.

HKEx says that the upgrade, which was completed in 2006, has delivered a highly reliable yet flexible network for the 300 trading terminals installed in its recently revamped trading hall.
