Hitachi Ltd is considering a number of proposals for restructuring its Hitachi Data Systems Ltd US venture with Electronic Data Systems Corp, including the purchase of EDS’ 16% shareholding. Hitachi recently issued a profit warning in which it said reorganization and consolidation of many of its divisions was being considered (CI No 3,506). Hitachi’s aim is to get into the services and integration game, like IBM Corp and Fujitsu Ltd, to try and bolster its fortunes. It has talked about buying a services concern that it would probably merge with the umbrella Information Systems Group that it is creating from several software and hardware groups (CI No 3,506).
