Hitachi Ltd has repeated its earlier announcement that it is to turn its Irving, Texas chip assembly plant into a full-scale wafer fab and says that from May 1989 it will start doing 1.3 micron memory chips – 1Ms presumably. It will later fabricate microprocessors and applications-specific parts there.
