HITACHI THROWS IN TOWEL ON PC CO

Hitachi Ltd is further consolidating its US operations with news that it is winding up its largely unsuccessful Hitachi PC Corp and transferring its 90 staff and assets to Hitachi Data Systems Corp. The news comes days after Hitachi announced plans to buy out the 16.2% stake Electronic Data Systems Inc holds in HDS. Hitachi PC began building consumer PCs in 1995 but by last May had shifted focus to the corporate market.
