Hitachi Ltd, as reported briefly (CI No 1,059) is to start marketing lap-top computers under its own name in Europe and Australia from the second quarter of next year: the company’s offerings include the HL400 021C AT-alike with 6.3 colour liquid crystal display at $5,600, and the large – 11 – mono LCD version, which costs $4,160; the company plans to ship 10,000 of the things out in the first year, and may also start manufacturing them in the US at the back end of next year.
