HITACHI SETS UP HDS AS SOLUTIONS SHOP WITH $300M

By CBR Staff Writer

Hitachi Ltd’s setting its now wholly-owned Hitachi Data Systems subsidiary up as a one-stop solution shop from desktop to mainframe and sending it on its way with a $300m allowance. Much of the $300m will be spent on building out its services products. It keeps its OEM relationships with Bull SA and Sequent Computer Systems Inc for Unix servers, is integrating the Hitachi PC Co and has a promising line of Windows NT servers including a much talked-about eight-way system. The chairman and CEO is Yoshihiro Koshimizu.
