Hitachi Ltd, whose full figures were not available yesterday, says that sales of computers for the year to March 31 rose 15% to $6,432m and are forecast to grow another 14% this year; semiconductor sales rose 7% to $3,120m and are forecast to rise 13% this year; capital spending for the coming year will rise 36% this year to $1,120m, mainly to increase manufacturing capacity for computers, chips and domestic appliances – and $320m of the investment will be made overseas as part of a plan to be producing some $4,000m of output abroad in 1992, up from $2,00m now.
