HITACHI, NEC, APOLLO, PRIME, TWO OILERS JOIN X/OPEN CO LTD

X/Open Co Ltd, the ICL-inspired Unix applications standards setting club yesterday announced that seven more companies have joined the consortium, four as full corporate members, two as participants on the X/Open User Council, and one as an Independent Software Vendor Council member. The four new manufacturers joining up are Apollo Computer Inc, Hitachi Ltd, NEC Corp and Prime Computer Inc, bringing to 19 the number of computer companies that are committed to building X/Open compliant products. Joining the X/Open User Council are two of the largest oil companies in the world – the Arco Oil & Gas Co division of Atlantic Richfield Co, and the Royal Dutch Shell Group of Companies. The new member of the Independent Software Vendor Council is Ashisuto Co, which represents several US and European software companies in Japan.
