Hitachi Ltd has joined the automated tape library fray in Japan with the H-6952 Magnetic Tape Library system, which takes up to 700 tapes, each of 800Mb capacity. It is currently supported by Hitachi’s M-series mainframes under the VOS3/AS AND VMS/AS operating systems. The company also announced a security coding device, the H-6385-10, used to encode vital data stored on the tape library.
