Hitachi Ltd describes the report – from the Nippon Kogyo Shimbun – that it planned to work with Sun Microsystems Inc on 64-bit Sparcs (CI No 2,403) as a complete fabrication (nothing should be read into the obscure pun in that!), and says it remains committed to its relationship with Hewlett-Packard Co on Precision Architecture; it was less dismissive of suggestions that it may take PowerPC on board as well, saying only that it has no plans at present to use PowerPC – and that was said about 24 hours before the agreement with IBM Corp.
