Hitachi Data Systems Ltd has announced its five and six way processors, the EX 520 and EX 620: the company says that the five-way offers approximately twice the performance of an EX 100, and the EX 620 offers around 2.4 times that of the base engine; using emitter coupled logic devices, the switching speeds range from 70pS to 200pS, and the input-output processor features 80,000 gates per device and speeds of 300pS; as with Comparex Informationssysteme GmbH, the central and expended storage will be implemented in 4Mbit DRAMs, with maximum central storage of 2Gb, and expanded storage of 8Gb; both models use the 36 logic device High Density Module for packaging and cooling, and the company will provide support for up to 256 channels, half of which can be serial fibre optic channels operating at 3Mb, 4.5Mb and 6Mb per second; first shipments are scheduled for the second quarter of next year.
