Under the agreement between Hitachi Ltd and Oki Electric Industry Co under which they will co-operate in the development of a microprocessor chip based on the Hewlett-Packard Co Precision Architecture RISC design: Hitachi is already collaborating with Hewlett-Packard on the development of the next generation of the RISC family, and last year came out with the PA/10 version; Oki plans to introduce its own 32-bit embedded controller based on Precision Architecture next year, with target processing capacity of 20 to 50 MIPS, for use in communication systems, factory controllers and embedded controllers for printers; Hitachi and Oki plan to exchange information on their chip developments, and make their external interfaces common; they will also develop support tools together; Hitachi plans to develop a 50 MIPS to 70 MIPS chip for release in 1993, for application in small workstations and embedded controllers; Hitachi and Oki are already partners on the G-Micro family of Tron chips.
