HINDUSTAN COMPUTERS OPENS FOR UNIX BUSINESS IN US

By CBR Staff Writer

Hindustan Computers Pte Ltd, the New Delhi company licensed by Apollo Computer Inc to assemble its Domain workstations in India (CI No 803), is trying its luck in the US with its own machines and has formed HCL America Inc in Sunnyvale, California as a wholly-owned subsidiary. It is looking for OEM business on its M3000 Unix machine, which it claims is the first commercially available multiprocessor machine to use the 25MHz version of the Motorola 68030. Pitched at the commercial applications market the Indian company offers its own utilities suite and fast language compilers for developers – the machine runs the Magnix V.3 implementation of Unix System V.3. HCL America Inc is also offering the compiler and utilities suite as a separate OEM product.
