According to officials at the Language Technologies division of the Foundation, We’re at the second stage of development. Officials said the engine would be ready in a few months.
The Hindi search engine will search the contents of Hindi web sites to produce result; something that’s not possible in existing search engines. The only choice for Hindi-based search is to be found at www.webduniya.com.
Over 16 people are working full-time on the project. The same people were responsible for rolling out a Tamil Website search engine which can execute both site-specific and web searches.
The Anna University-KB Chandrasekar Foundation is a private-public initiative that has close affiliations with the Madras Institute of Technology. The foundation also plans to develop Internet search engines for other Indian languages like Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada.
