Himax claims that the chip is among the first to integrate features such as content adaptive brightness control (CABC), mobile display digital interface, mobile industry processor interface and red green blue (RGB) separated gamma correction.
The driver supports 262K colors for wide quarter video graphics array (QVGA) and ultra wide QVGA resolution for use in multimedia-rich portable devices such as 3G/3.5G compatible handsets and smart phones.
The company said that the CABC fine-tunes backlight brightness by analyzing and processing the display content, resulting in a 50% power saving in backlight power. The RGB separated gamma correction Enhances color presentation.
The launch of the display driver is a part of the company’s strategy to cater to global handset manufacturers. In February 2007, it acquired Wisepal Technologies, a display driver integrated circuits company, to enhance its position in the display driver market for small and medium sized applications.
