HIGHWIND, ISPNEWS MERGE TO FORM USENET GIANT

By CBR Staff Writer

Two companies that run Usenet servers for enterprises and internet service providers: HighWind Inc and ISPNews Inc, plan to merge into a combined company, catchily named ISPNews-HighWind. The new entity – a direct competitor to SuprNews Inc – should inherit some six hundred customers, ranging from small ISPs to AT&T, Sprint, MCI, British Telecom and Time Warner. Executives rave about Usenet as the only scalable many-to-many solution on the internet. It’s just a shame the signal-to-noise ratio is so low.
