Hewlett-Packard Co has entered the OEM market for high-capacity 5.25 Winchesters with a bang, becoming the primary supplier to AT&T Co of drives with capacities of 300Mb or more. AT&T previously bought most of the disk drives for use with its 3B computers from Control Data, but had been using an 8 409Mb drive from Fujitsu in the bracket now filled by the Hewlett drive. As well as 389Mb 5.25 drives, Hewlett will also supply AT&T with 8 715Mb drives. Fujitsu and Control Data reportedly also bid for this pact.
