Hewlett-Packard Co has launched what it is heralding as its largest-capacity, highest-performing 5.25 disk drives for OEM customers and systems integrators. The HP C3010, C3009 and C3007 are designed for integration in mainframes, multi-user computers, high-end workstations and personal computer servers. Specifications include a synchronous transfer rate of 20M-bytes per second; a media-transfer rate up to 42M-bits per second; a 9.0mS seek time on the HP C3010 Option 100; and a 5.5mS latency time. The 20Mbyte per second transfer rate is achieved through fast and wide SCSI performance features. Hewlett’s new wide SCSI transfers data 16 bits at a time, and accommodates up to 16 devices on the same SCSI channel. The HP C3010, C3009 and C3007 disk drives have unformatted capacities of 2.35Gb, 2.0Gb and 1.60Gb respectively. Each model comes with single-ended, differential or dual-port SCSI-2 controllers. As with the rest of its disk line, the company offers a five-year limited warranty. The drives design features 11.5mS average seek time (9.0mS on the HP C3010 Option 100), and 500mS controller overhead time. The HP C3010, C3009 and C3007 disk drives feature an embedded SCSI-2 controller with single-ended, differential and dual-port options. Other features are queue reordering, segmented buffers, programmable pre-fetch, buffer and bus-activity limits and dual-porting. The dual-port option improves data accessibility and data integrity. Additionally, the drives feature downloadable hardware that enable users to upgrade hardware through the SCSI interface. No prices or availability given.
