Sources at Hewlett-Packard Co have revealed that the company’s own desktop manager project is still not out of the requirements definition phase: the thing is being run out of its Corvallis, Oregon division that is also handling the company’s Motif developments. Chances are that the company will go for a high level manager that sits on top of NewWave – which itself resides above Motif – perhaps even doing several of the ‘Metaphors’ as the company calls them, each tailored to address specific market areas. Presently Hewlett is looking at the possibilities of developing specific interfaces for engineering and hospital administration systems.
