HEWLETT-PACKARD’S COMMON X INTERFACE GRAPHICAL FRONT END FOR UNIX

As we closed for press last night, details started coming through last night of Hewlett-Packard Co’s Common X Interface graphical front end for Unix, which presents the user with screens that look like MS-DOS ones running Microsoft Corp’s MS-Windows and Presentation Manager: the software development tools are out now, and the window manager for users follows second quarter 1989; CXI was developed jointly with Microsoft, and the pair also formally announced plans to implement true Presentation Manager for Unix.
