At the same time, Hewlett-Packard is also set integrate Apollo’s Network Computing System, NCS, into its systems, following joint development by Apollo and DEC which has extended the remote procedure call component of Network Computing System – it will eventually lead to support for wide area networking. In other news flowing out of Hewlett’s acquisition, it seems that there will be no attempt to fully integrate Hewlett’s and Apollo’s respective Unixalikes, HP-UX and Domain/IX. Rather the company plans to wait and use the Open Software Foundation’s OSF1 as a common operating system across the various Unix systems.
